Introduction - about beginnings and endings, from happy to terrifying

Introduction - about beginnings and endings, from happy to terrifying

Welcome to the first edition of the Kanefabe Quarterly. I'm glad you're here.

I'm sticking with March 31, 2025, as the official publication date for this inaugural edition. But there are a couple caveats with the timing, both in terms of the dates you'll see on the site and in terms of the moments when I wrote these essays.

The dates on the site span the first couple weeks of April 2025. That reflects the time I took to get the feel for things with this site layout, experiment a little bit, and get Volume 1 published.

As for the 12 pieces that appear in Volume 1, I wrote them over a span of months last fall. When I went through and edited them for this site, I changed most of the events to past tense. But you might catch a moment where it seems like I'm talking about something that happened months ago, like the 2024 World Series, and referring to events like they just happened.

If you do see something like that in these pages, I hope you'll just smile and cut me a break.

Such as these things go when the leaves are turning, many of these essays reflect the exercise of processing changes:

  • The end of a beloved wrestler's career
  • The end of the 2024 baseball season, culminating with the World Series
  • The end of another terrible Colorado Rockies season, and the hopes for better beginnings ahead
  • The beginning of another four years of fear and chaos, and how we can stick together

Everyone is required to sign up to read this and every edition of the Kanefabe Quarterly. It will always be free to sign up and read Kanefabe.

The cost for each quarterly is whatever you want it to be, and yes, it's really OK if you pay $0. If you do have the means and feel it's worth a contribution, you'll support my work directly. My hopes would be to continue to grow what I'm doing here at Kanefabe with the quarterly publications as well as other endeavors.

One final note about money stuff. For each edition, I'll pick an organization and donate 10% of the payments. This time around, I'll be donating to the Transgender Law Center.

Seriously though, it's OK if you choose to pay $0. I hope you enjoy Volume 1 of the Kanefabe Quarterly.
